Earrings - Częstochowa

Earrings - Częstochowa

Low stock: 7 left

These earrings were created to honor Our Lady of Częstochowa, a venerated icon in Częstochowa, Poland

Our Lady of Częstochowa is a title bestowed on an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

According to tradition, after Jesus’ death, St. Luke the Evangelist created the image on a cypress board that the Holy Family had used as a tabletop. The image was taken to Constantinople in 328 A.D., then Częstochowa, Poland in 1382, where it still hangs in the care of a monastery.

The icon was damaged twice in the past during invasions: once in the throat and once in the cheek. The damage from both attacks can still be seen in the icon, which is why most depictions of Our Lady of Częstochowa feature scars. It is still considered sacred, particularly by the Polish people, who refer to her as the Queen of Poland.

The teardrop style measures 1.25" or 33mm from the top of the tear drop to its base, and .75" or 20mm across at its widest point. Royal blue resin and gold glitter powder fill the center of an golden bezel, with matching hooks.
