🌟 Our Lady of Pontmain:

In early 1871, the small town of Pontmain, France had seen much suffering. The country had been ravaged by a typhoid epidemic, smallpox was spreading, and because of the Franco-Prussian War, most of the country was under Prussian occupation. Pontmain was readying itself for invasion, as it lay between the Prussian forces and their next target, the city of Laval.

On January 17, 1871, four children saw a beautiful woman in the sky above a family farm. They described the woman as wearing a dark blue dress covered with stars, a black veil, and a golden crown. The apparition continued for three hours. While Our Lady did not speak, she was accompanied by angels, and she revealed messages through a vision of a large white banner and through the miraculous rearranging of the stars in the sky themselves! Mary’s message was this: “But pray, my children. God will hear you in time. My Son allows Himself to be touched.” 

By this time, many in the village had gathered to pray. Only the children could see the Blessed Virgin, but the adults prayed the Rosary and sang hymns. As they sang, a red crucifix appeared in Mary’s hands and she appeared to mourn. As the night’s prayers came to a close, the apparition ended. 

Within eleven days, Prussia had mysteriously withdrawn its troops. An Armistice was signed and the war was over – Pontmain and France had been spared. Our Lady of Pontmain is also known as Our Lady of Hope. Her feast is celebrated on January 17th.
