Our Lady of Aparecida is the Patroness of Brazil, whose story began in 1717 when three fishermen pulled a small clay statue of the Blessed Virgin from the Paraíba River — followed by a miraculous catch of fish. That humble 16-inch statue is now enshrined in the second largest basilica in the world, and a 50-meter steel monument to her honor rises over the city of Aparecida today.
