Celebrating the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary

September 12th marks the Feast of the Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a celebration that has been recognized by the Church since 1684! I LOVE the rich history of the Catholic faith!

This Feast was instituted by Pope Innocent XI to honor Our Blessed Mother after the Christian victory in the Battle of Vienna. It was removed from the calendar after the Second Vatican Council, but reinstated by St. Pope John Paul II in 2002.

How can you honor Mary on this feast?

  • Pray the Litany of the Holy Name of Mary, also known as the Litany of Loreto – reflecting on her many titles and asking for her prayers.

  • Add her name to your daily prayers – whether it's a Hail Mary or a short invocation like, "Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!"

  • Attend Mass or pray the Rosary – dedicating these prayers to honor her Holy Name.

  • Research her many titles – Find one that speaks to your heart and helps you connect more deeply with Mary.
